Whether you have kids or grandchildren it’s always good to take them out and about to expel all that energy. The beach is great but it’s also nice to take them to some different places so they can experience a new playground and some new activities.
Why not pack a picnic and head out for the day and try out some of the best playgrounds around the region:
Tui Glen Reserve, 2 Claude Brookes Dr, Henderson
This open plan playground is situated in a central location in the 5.42 ha reserve on a raised central knoll, surrounded by trees and a pedestrian pathway. Bring your bikes and cruise down the Twin Streams cycleway for this towering pyramid complete with pipe slides, a basket swing, an eagle’s nest, dual flying foxes, a tree hut and sand pit area!
Ōtāhuhu Recreation Precinct, 30 Mason Avenue, Ōtāhuhu
This is a really cool playground and will give your kids the feeling of exploring one of Auckland’s volcanoes with large grass mounds and craters. It has slides and small ground-level trampolines which are safe and accessible. There is also the pour ‘n’ play area, which is a relatively new outdoor splash area that the kids will love, especially in this warm weather.
Takapuna Beach Playground, Gould Reserve, The Strand
Looking to combine a beach and a playground, then head to Takapuna’s beachfront playground with intertwining pipe slides wrapping around an impressive red and gold tower. There are hammocks, basket swings, a hamster wheel, a play area for sand and water and plus a trampoline. There is also wheelchair-access and it’s close to the shops should you need an ice-cream!
Daldy Street Park, Wynyard Quarter, CBD
The Wynyard Quarter in Auckland CBD is a great place to hangout, not only does it have a great atmosphere but with the newly renovated fish market and the awesome Park with superslides there is something for everyone. Bring your scooters, basketball and togs as there is enough space to do it all.
Hobsonville Point Playground, Hobsonville Point
Hobsonville Point has become quite the destination to visit on the North Shore of Auckland. Bring your bikes and scooters or simply walk the circuit and the kids will find heaps of things to do. There are 3 playgrounds on the walking circuit and one is water based. There are cafes and bars along the way and there are a few BBQ’s at some playgrounds if you want to bring your own. Make a day of it and visit the Farmers market at the weekend or stop by Little Creatures brewery and take in the view.
